Bluewater Kings Band: The Soul Experience
The Music of Motown, Funk, and Soul
Established locally in 2012, Bluewater Kings Band is composed of some of the top musicians in Detroit who share a common goal – to curate an energetic performance experience pleasing concert goers of all ages! Everyone will jam to their favorite songs from from a wide-randing array of musical hits from Motown to funk, to soul to Top 40.
Bluewater Kings Band musicians are multi-talented, so don’t be surprised if you see them headlining the city’s top jazz and rock clubs or on primetime TV shows. Detroit Opera Touring Ensemble: Summer Serenade
A jewel in our summer concerts series, War Memorial partner Detroit Opera returns to the stage with their touring ensemble for an entrancing concert of music on the back lawn of The War Memorial over looking Lake St. Clair. Grab a blanket, pack a picnic, and relax while enjoying a performance from the ensemble singing selections of music from well-known opera and musical theatre pieces.

Planet D Nonent: A Salute to Duke Ellington
The Planet D Nonet jazz band graces the back lawn of The War Memorial performing the music of some of the greatest jazz musicians and composers of all-time. Join us this summer to hear the sizzling sounds of Fats Waller, swing era tunes by Duke Ellington, Benny Moten, Count Basie and Fletcher Henderson as well as the jumpin’ jive of Louis Jordan.
Cofounded by RJ Spangler & James O’Donnell in 2007, this band is celebrating 16 years of bringing swing music to SE Michigan listeners and swing dancers. In that time the band has performed in 10 states including some memorable gigs in New Orleans and garnered 11 Detroit Music Awards. In addition to the vocals of trumpeter James O’Donnell, the band also features the vocals of trombonist John “Tbone” Paxton.
