Charles & Gwen Scales
Pianist, Vocalist, Composer, Arranger, Songwriter, Producer, Business Owner – this dynamic duo has racked up quite a few titles between them over their 20+ plus years in the music business. Known domestically and internationally, Charles and Gwen have shared the stage with such artists as Patti LaBelle, Phyllis Hyman, Najee, and Hamilton Bohannon; have performed for presidents, governors, and mayors; have produced and worked on musical productions with national and international recording artists such as Gwendolyn Joy, Gene Dunlap, David McMurray, Ron Otis, Al Turner, and Althea Rene; run t
heir own entertainment agency (CGS Entertainment) and record label (Big Axle Music); and regularly perform at least 200 dates a year.
The creative pair always seems to bring it both on stage and in- recording. What is “it” you may ask? Something soulful, jazzy, powerful and intense, but smooth and subtle – the’ je ne sais quoi’ that follows all musical greats.

Join us for the next installment of our new Second Saturdays Series at the War Memorial! We’ve got a fun Saturday morning line-up for kids and their families. Each program is just $10 per child (adults are free and so is the coffee!).
Doors open at 9am, with all activities set up station style, and the onstage performance by Mad Science scheduled for 10:15am.
Magnetic Magic
Join Mad Science on a magnet treasure hunt to discover hidden magnetic treasure. We will set up several magnet experiments that will allow kids to see a magnetic field and view a magnet’s gravity-defying abilities.
Michigan Mammals
A great many mammals call Michigan home. Using skins, skulls, mounted animals and a variety of hands-on activities, students will learn how to identify Michigan’s mammals. Students will also explore mammal diversity and adaptations, especially as they relate to diet and survival. Presentation by Huron Clinton Metroparks
Onstage Show – Fire & Ice
This spectacular show will thrill and chill audiences with amazing dry ice experiments! From a shivering spatula to a special, bubbly shower, the audiences will be begging for more!
Storytime & Coloring
For our littlest attendees or siblings that might not be quite ready for all the science fun, we’ll have Storytime and coloring to occupy them!

Each Michigan county has one, now it’s your chance to hear from veteran navigators of Wayne, Oakland, and Macomb counties.
For the next Vet Connect Seminar Series at The War Memorial, join us as we welcome Chris Brown, Chaka McDonald, and Diana Laskey – the navigators from Wayne, Oakland, and Macomb counties respectively. The trio will present on the work that is done in their counties, all to support veterans.
The free seminar is planned for Tuesday, Dec. 3, from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
The War Memorial Veterans Committee has a goal to offer more initiatives and programs for veterans. From family events to seminars that are pertinent to those who have honorably served our country, The War Memorial is eager to give back to our veterans!

Each ticket includes a delicious selection from multiple breakfast stations, a festive make-and-take craft, a chance to share holiday wishes with Santa, and don’t forget to stop by the make-your-own hot cocoa station for some extra warmth and fun!

Dress the children in their comfiest pajamas and let them snuggle up with their favorite stuffed toy and blanket as they join Santa Claus for a magical evening in the Alger House. The children will join Santa by the warm glow of the fireplace while they listen to him read some of his beloved holiday stories, tell tales about life at the North Pole, and share his favorite holiday treat…milk and cookies!
Everyone will have an opportunity to share their wish list and snap their own photo with Santa, making for the perfect holiday evening!

The Storytime seatings will take place between 4-8pm on both Sunday, December 8th and Thursday, December 12th. Each event will take approximately one hour.
There will be a special sensory-friendly edition of Bedtime Stories with Santa on Sunday, December 8th at 2:30pm. Interested families can email ce@warmemorial.org
